Circulatory Management

The SAM IO is a manually operated intraosseous access device used to establish vascular access when conventional IV placement is not possible. Intraosseous access delivers fluids, medications, and blood products directly into the bone marrow cavity, providing a reliable circulatory route in critical patients. It is indicated in any prehospital or clinical setting where difficult vascular access is present and immediate intervention is required.

The SAM IO uses a trigger-actuated driver that creates rotational spin in the needle assembly. Providers compress the trigger repeatedly while guiding the needle to the insertion site with gentle downward pressure. Once the needle is seated, the stylet is removed to expose a standard Luer-lock connection for extension set attachment. From there, aspiration verification, flushing, and treatment can begin. No batteries or external power source is required.

The SAM IO is available in three 15-gauge needle sizes: 15mm, 25mm, and 45mm. All are white-hub needles designed to accommodate a wide variety of patient anatomies, ranging from pediatric to large adult. Supported insertion sites include the proximal tibia, proximal humerus, and distal tibia. Needle packs are available individually or in five-packs for agency stocking.

The SAM IO Training Kit includes a nylon training case, driver, three training needles, stabilizer, and adaptor. Everything included is designed to simulate the IO access procedure with the same mechanics as the clinical system. Optional Sawbones simulation models are available for the proximal humerus, proximal tibia, and distal tibia, giving training programs a realistic insertion site for hands-on skill development.

The SAM IO Field Storage Case is a soft-sided case built to organize the complete SAM IO system in one deployable package. It accommodates the SAM IO driver, multiple needle packs, needle adaptor, and stabilizer, using velcro straps and a mesh zipper pocket to keep every component visible and accessible. It is designed for providers who need their IO device ready in a remote location or under time pressure.
